Football Advent Calendars 2026: The Best for Kids

Match Attax 2026/27, Topps Premier League and Adrenalyn XL card calendars, plus story books and brick builds: what's behind the 24 doors and which age each suits.

•Published 22 October 2026•8 min read

The best football advent calendar for most children is the one that matches what they already do with football away from the pitch. A child who swaps cards at training wants a card calendar that matches the set they collect, and the season on the box matters as much as the brand. A younger child or a reader gets more from a story or quiz calendar, and a child who likes building gets a brick calendar they can put on a shelf when December is over.

The 2026 calendars are already on sale, and the card calendars in particular tend to go before December. Prices below are what Amazon listed when we checked in October 2026, and they move as the season goes on.

Football Card Advent Calendars

Card calendars are the biggest group, and the one most children ask for by name. All three of the main ones work the same way: 24 windows, a pack or a few cards behind each one, and some cards that only come in the calendar. The difference is which competition and which set the cards belong to, and that decides whether a calendar fits your child's collection.

Match Attax UCC 2026/27 Countdown Calendar

Match Attax is the Topps card game built on the UEFA club competitions, so the cards are Champions League, Europa League and Conference League players from clubs across Europe. The 2026/27 Countdown Calendar holds 96 cards, including 10 exclusive Festive Edition die-cut cards, a guaranteed Infinity card and a guaranteed Rare, Super Rare, Mega Rare or Ultra Rare base parallel.

It is the right calendar for a child who already has the 2026/27 Match Attax binder, because the cards slot straight into the set they are trying to finish. The Festive Edition cards are exclusive to the calendar, so they are cards a child cannot pull from an ordinary pack.

Last season's 2025/26 calendar is still listed at the time of writing. Check the season on the box before buying: a 2025/26 calendar is full of last season's squads, which is a disappointment for a child collecting this year's set.

Topps Premier League 2026 Advent Calendar

The Topps Premier League 2026 calendar holds 96 Festive Parallel cards plus 24 Festive Freeze cards. Despite the 2026 in the name, it belongs to the 2025/26 Topps Premier League set (the "Debut Edition"), so the squads are last season's, and buyers' reviews on Amazon point this out. We could not find a 2026/27 Topps Premier League calendar listed in October 2026.

It still suits a child who follows a Premier League club and likes opening Premier League cards, since Match Attax covers the European competitions. It is a poorer fit for a child trying to complete this season's Premier League binder. At about £37 it is also the dearest of the three, at roughly 31p a card against roughly 28p for Match Attax.

Football Parent note

He collects both, to be honest, but I think the Topps ones are the ones he prefers. He and his friends often play with them and trade. They really like picking 11 players each to build the strongest team, and then asking us to judge which team would win. That seems to keep them entertained for quite a long time.

Panini FIFA 365 Adrenalyn XL 2026 Advent Calendar

Adrenalyn XL is Panini's rival trading card game. The FIFA 365 2026 set has over 300 players from 21 teams across world football. It is the one to buy if your child collects Adrenalyn instead of Match Attax; the two games are not compatible, so cards from one do not count towards the other's binder.

Before buying a card calendar

  • Ask which set they collect. Children in the same team can split between Match Attax and Topps Premier League. The wrong one is still a nice present, but it will not help finish their binder.
  • Expect duplicates. Any child who already buys packs will open some cards they have. That is part of how card swapping at training works, so a few doubles are not wasted.
  • Treat the "guaranteed rare" as a bonus. The calendars promise a rare card of some kind, not a specific player.

Story and Quiz Advent Calendars

For children who are not collecting cards, or are too young to look after them, a book calendar gives them something to read or do with each morning's window.

The Football Stars Advent Calendar 2026 is a box of 24 small books, one for each day, each telling the story of a player, from Bellingham and Saka to Lionesses such as Leah Williamson and Ella Toone. Every book also comes with a free audiobook of the full story, which helps children who are not yet confident readers. The publisher pitches it at ages 7 to 9, and with women players such as Aitana Bonmati and Lauren James through the line-up it suits a child who plays in a mixed or girls' team.

Quiz and activity calendars are paperbacks with a page per day: facts, puzzles and questions. The ages 6 to 12 activity book has been updated for the 2025/26 season and the 2026 World Cup, had 4.6 stars from 29 reviews when we checked, and at under £10 it doubles as a stocking filler. These suit children who like football facts and quizzes on the drive to a match.

Building and Figure Advent Calendars

A building block calendar gives a child one small football model to build each day, from players and shirts to trophies and goal scenes, 712 pieces in total. It is aimed at ages 6 and up and suits children who already build sets at home; once December is over the 24 models can be lined up as a match-day scene.

Club fans can get a FOCO BRXLZ brick calendar that builds into a club-coloured Christmas tree about 14.5cm tall, 628 pieces over the 24 days. Manchester United, Tottenham and England versions were listed on Amazon when we checked, at about £30.

Amazon also lists dozens of generic "24 football figures" or "24 football accessories" calendars, usually under £20. Most have only a handful of reviews and mixed ratings, so they are a gamble. The best reviewed one we found was the Football Advent Calendar 2026 for Boys, which mixes small things to wear, play with and put on display. Building calendars contain small parts, so check the age on the box for a household with a toddler in it.

Club and Premier League Advent Calendars

Plenty of children would rather have a calendar for their own club, whether that is Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham or Chelsea. Clubs that make an official advent calendar usually sell it through their own online shop. When we checked, the Liverpool and Arsenal calendars listed on Amazon were both unavailable, so the club shop is the place to look.

For a child who supports a Premier League club, the Topps Premier League calendar is the alternative that is easy to buy: it covers every club, so their players are in there, although from the 2025/26 season.

Which Advent Calendar for Which Age

Under 7 and Under 8. A story or activity calendar, or a simple figures calendar. Card calendars work at this age only if the child already collects and an adult helps keep the cards together.

Under 9 to Under 11. Card collecting and swapping at training and in the school playground is often at its busiest at this age, so a card calendar for the right set is usually the most wanted.

Under 12 and up. Still card calendars for collectors, or a brick calendar for builders. Older children who have moved on from collecting may prefer something other than a calendar entirely; our guide to football gifts for kids covers presents by age and budget.

When Football Advent Calendars Sell Out

Football advent calendars are on sale from October, and searches for them peak in the first half of November. Popular ones can run short well before December: last season's Match Attax calendar showed only one left in stock on Amazon when we checked in late October.

Order by mid-November to be safe. If you are also buying a bigger football present, the same timing applies to garden football goals and rebounders, which are bulky seasonal stock and need building before Christmas Day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you get in the Match Attax advent calendar?

The 2026/27 Match Attax UCC Countdown Calendar has 24 windows holding 96 cards in total. That includes 10 exclusive Festive Edition die-cut cards, a guaranteed Infinity card and a guaranteed Rare, Super Rare, Mega Rare or Ultra Rare base parallel.

What is the difference between the Match Attax and Topps Premier League calendars?

Match Attax covers the UEFA club competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League) and its calendar is the 2026/27 set. The Topps Premier League calendar covers the Premier League only, and the one on sale in October 2026 is the 2025/26 set. Both are made by Topps, but they belong to different collections, so pick the one that matches your child's binder.

Is there a football advent calendar for girls?

None of the calendars here is made only for girls, but the Football Stars story calendar includes women's players, and the brick, quiz and card calendars are not aimed at boys or girls.

Can you buy last year's football advent calendar?

Often yes, but the cards and squads will be last season's. That is fine for a child who just likes opening cards, and a letdown for one trying to finish this season's set.
